TanssivaMassa, DancingPulp

In collaboration with sculptor Laura Ruotsalainen. In TanssivaMassa our working group was reflecting on the very topical, but less-noticed, impact of war on nature, plants and other animals. Ecosystems are fragile and vulnerable, and prolonged wars and bombings destroy not only human settlements and culture, but also the nature of the area.

Harakka Island, as a former Defence Forces area, contributed its own part to the discussion. Animal experiments were carried out on horses, dogs and rodents in the Defence Forces’ chemistry laboratory. On the other hand, the island’s nature has been able to develop in peace, partly as a result of military use, and despite the island’s small size, the nature is diverse and abundant in both species and biotopes.
